A dynamic speaker, trainer, consultant and author, Dr. Maheu has been a telemental and telebehavioral health leader since 1994. She’s addressed over 20,000 professionals a conferences and conventions; trained over 6,5000 professionals online; and has consulted with large health and mental health insurance companies, community clinics, physician groups, universities, and independent practitioners. She has been a staunch advocate for telehealth, with specialized interests in legal, ethical and other risk management approaches to developing and delivering behavioral services.
Dr. Maheu is the Executive Director of the Telebehavioral Health Institute (TBHI), where behavioral professionals earn continuing education (CE) in one of two Certificate Programs for telemental or telebehavioral health. Her passion and focus have drawn a noted group of core and guest faculty members to offer their expertise to TBHI; over 6,500 professionals from more than 65 countries for training, and 35 work/study scholars to benefit from the scholarship opportunities offered by TBHI. Her leadership at TBHI has inspired the development of more than 90 hours of instructional materials, all available online through a variety of desktop and mobile-compatible formats. As Editor-in-Chief of the Telebehavioral Health News, she oversees the publication of a weekly newsletter and blog as free services to help educate a community of more than 10,000 licensed professionals. As Faculty Associate of the Nicholas A. Cummings Doctor of Behavioral Health Program, School of Health Solutions, she has taught doctoral students how to work with technology as behavioral health professionals.
Dr. Maheu is bilingual/bi-cultural, with French as her native language. She revels in frequent contact with her French Canadian culture and extended family in Quebec. Having earned her real estate license when she was 18, she has dabbled in the purchase and sale of real estate for decades. Since her twenties, she has been an organic gardener who now enjoys tending to an extensive collection of flowers and exotic plants in San Diego, where she lives with her spouse.
